I appreciate your insight as someone who has known her for quite a while.
While her gambit may have worked in years past, in our hyper-polarized political environment, I don’t think it’s a winning strategy. Republicans aren’t going to vote for her no matter what she does because she is not one of them. Democrats will challenge her in a primary because they rightly see her as a traitor. Her resistance to Democratic policy isn’t principled or ideological. She’s a sellout corrupted by corporate donors, and Democrats know this.
If she survives the primary, she will lose the general election due to a lack of enthusiasm from her betrayed supporters.
