Large corporations use their financial influence to evolve toward oligopoly or monopoly power. They claim they don't want government intervention and label is socialist. In reality, they don't want curbs to their power to restrict the free market through monopolistic behavior.
Capitalism doesn't tend toward free markets. If capitalism runs amok, which it has in the United States for the last 40 years, you get a diminishment in the power of labor, an increase in the power of capital and management, and the proliferation of monopolies through consolidation. The problem is not with government regulation. The problem is a lack of effective regulation or enforcement to ensure that we have competitive free markets and no monopolies.
