My grandfather lived to 103, coherently until the very end. I used to visit him every year and spend four or five mornings sitting with him. We chatted about events from 80 years prior, sometimes repeatedly as he would forget he told me a story. Some of the sweetest times were the periods spent in complete silence. He didn’t feel any pressure to entertain me, and I gave him my undivided attention even when he had nothing to say. I will always cherish those memories, I’m tearing up writing this. I hope you cherish the memories with your family you create today.
