The Moonies had a ritual they called “love bombing” where the entire group would be unrelentingly kind and loving, with the promise of more if you joined the group. This was a particularly appealing to society’s forgotten, homeless, drug addicted, mentally disabled, and anyone willing to try it out. AI will be the same.

Soon, AI will be able to plausibly pose as a person — not Turing Test perfect, but plausible for those willing to suspend their disbelief. AI acceptance will be like reading fiction or watching a movie. If you choose to suspend your disbelief, you can get really into it. Once you were open to excepting an AI as if it were real, then the world of fantasy opens to you. That is how AI will spread.
And once you cross that threshold like anyone else you are open to hearing what you want to hear and you get addicted to interacting with an AI that tells you whatever you want to hear.
