The only reason vaccination became a political issue is because Donald Trump couldn't admit his ostrich approach to the problem was a terrible mistake. He doubled-down on stupid, as he was prone to do, and decided it was better to let 500,000 people die rather than admit his initial response based on wishful thinking was not a good policy choice. The current resistance to vaccination is a long-term consequence of following his poor leadership. Many of those who refuse the vaccine today can't admit to themselves that Donald Trump made a mistake and they made a mistake following him. They would rather die. And many of them will die.
