Yes, that is all true. But the other sources of income were already present for those writers. Those assets are independent of Medium as a platform. They use Medium to assist, but Medium by itself doesn't do this for them.

People approach Medium with the idea that all they must do is write on Medium, do it well, and they will be able to make a living from Medium alone.

It doesn't work that way.
